Fast Company held off Papaau by just 18 seconds to clinch the final race of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club, Spring Shakedown Series, Thursday under light southerly winds at the Nawiliwili Harbor.
Following an assessment by the NYC Race Committee, they agreed on a Kona course which took its toll on OZone who took the Ninini Point buoy in the wrong direction and had to relinquish its lead after having to track back and round the buoy properly.
The mishap gave the win to Fast Company who crossed the 3.3-mile course on a sail of 40 minutes and 55 seconds, correcting to 40:58 PHRF.
Papaau was third across the finish line on a 43:07 elapsed sail, but the PHRF correction put her in second place on a 41:16 PHRF rating with OZone (42:04 elapsed sail) correcting to 42:07 PHRF and third place.
The remaining fleet of boats filled in with Speedy (44:47 elapsed, 44:512 PHRF), Weatherly (45:26 elapsed, 45:30 PHRF), Bonjolea II (43:19 elapsed, 46:09 PHRF) and Coyote (49:27 elapsed, 46:18 PHRF).
The Fast Company win in the sixth race of the season also earned top honors in the series with seven points followed by Papaau finishing with 10 points and OZone claiming third place on 12 points.
Coyote, taking top honors in the Club class in the final race at 39:14 Club, topped the series standings with 10 points followed by Speedy with 13 points and Trinity, the sole trimaran in the fleet taking third place at 18 points.
The Nawiliwili Yacht Club Race Committee hosts the next series, the Rum Race Series, with the first race starting on April 7 when the first flags fly at 5 p.m.
