Kevin Matsunaga was trying, but was only able to get blue on the finish line camera Thursday at the second Kauai Interscholastic Federation qualifying track meet at Vidinha Stadium. Erin Dunn was busy recording finishes and coach Ron Velasco had his hands full recruiting timers.
Calvin (who was it that called him “Coach Hey?”) Palekawas his usual busybody self, getting people to sit on the infield during starts, and hustling athletes to help put away hurdles. He said coach Bobby Kubota had to leave early because Pono Market had roast pork Friday (somebody had to put the pork in the ovens).
Sam Henriques had two jackets on (Alex — congratulations on the 5th place finish in the Junior Division at the Kauai Regional District Science Fair! — had long since retired to the family car) and Manny was getting some nice photos of the event.
Happy birthday to Charley Rebb who celebrated his birthday preparing taxes like he’s been doing for the past 22 years.
His birthday falls on Girls Day (Ora Tashiro said the Kukuiolono ladies got special treats Friday). Karen Ikemoto said the Hanapepe Library is hosting a special presentation on the Hanapepe Stream estuary Tuesday starting at 6 p.m.
