Kudos to the athletes, parents, volunteers and everyone involved with the Kauai Interscholastic Federation track and field program for working through the problems with the electronic timing system. Marissa Purcell said this Thursday is the annual Rotary Track Meet (Dave Walker will definitely be in the house), and Coach Bill Arakaki said they’ll have a helper from Oahu coming to help with the electronic camera and timers. Keep the fingers crossed.
There is still time to check out the Senior Olympics Pickleball tournament going on at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center (good time to check out the specials at the Kauai Kookie Kitchen, too, Ron Yoshimoto and Don Miyazaki of Fresno, California!) Action starts early (7:30 a.m.) for the Mixed division. Kudos to John Hodges, the U.S. Pickleball Association ambassador, and Melanie Okamoto (she ain’t sleeping this weekend) of the county’s Parks and Recreation for doing such a great job coordinating the tournament.
Finally, another round of kudos to Leanna Thesken for coordinating and hosting a great Threads for Teens event last week at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club. For the 30 young women, this was a great empowerment event. Mahalo to all the sponsors and volunteers!
