KILAUEA — For Brooke Hemingway, helping people lead healthier lives was a calling.
“I’m doing my passion; helping people get healthy,” she said.
But Hemingway, a nurse and fitness instructor at Kauai Athletic Club, said there was a time when she wasn’t feeling her best.
“I was your typical really tired mom who relied on diet coke or a nap to get me through the day,” she said. “I was a bundle of nerves and wasn’t sleeping well.”
After giving birth to her fifth child in July, Hemingway, who lives in Kilauea, realized she needed to bring balance back into her life.
So, she turned to Plexus Worldwide, a company that sells plant-based supplements to help people lose weight and gain energy.
“It helps get the body back into balance by addressing three issues: blood sugar instability, digestive health and inflammation,” Hemingway said. “The supplements reset your body.”
She started using the supplements in October, and within two weeks, noticed a difference in her energy level.
“I felt a lot different. I had great energy, and I was sleeping through the night. I stopped drinking diet coke cold turkey, and stopped having sugar cravings,” she said.
Recently, her efforts were recognized by the company, who awarded her with an all expenses paid trip to Scottsdale, Arizona to visit the Plexus Worldwide home office. She and a friend will be staying in a luxury resort, have a spa day, and have dinner with Plexus executives.
She felt like the best version of herself, Hemingway said.
“I feel better now, after five kids than I felt after I had my first baby,” she said.
Now, Hemingway serves as an ambassador for Plexus Worldwide.
“I help educate people on the body and how the supplements work with the body for optimal health,” she said.
There are over 250,000 Plexus Worldwide ambassadors in the U.S., Canada and Australia, said Josh Weiss, company spokesman.
Ambassadors are simply independent re-sellers of the product, Weiss said.
In addition to selling her own product, Hemingway helps people start their own Plexus business.
“It replaced my income as a nurse and provided a steady income so I could work from home,” she said.
The trip to Arizona is a monthly award for the top-performing ambassadors, Weiss said.
“It’s a testament to her success, because doing that so quickly is very impressive,” he said.
Because packages and deals change monthly, there is no specific goal ambassadors need to achieve to be eligible for the award, Weiss added.
Hemingway will be joined by two other Plexus Worldwide ambassadors on the trip.
“I was shocked because I just felt like I was doing my passion,” she said. “I just put my head down and got to work.”
She is bringing her friend, Emily Gibson, who is also a user of Plexus Worldwide products.
“She’s been doing really well — both health wise and with the business,” she said.
She said she is most looking forward to learning the ins and outs of the company and meeting with the company executives.
“I feel like this is all a dream, and someone needs to pinch me,” she said. “I’m getting paid and rewarded for helping people get healthy and getting myself healthy.”
