Lisa Huttemeyer’s plane from San Diego, California touched down with an hour to spare before the Relay for Life started at the Hanapepe soccer fields.
Lisa, a survivor, was attending her second Relay on Kauai after being introduced to the event by Delia Tumbaga of the Fely’s Angels camp, and a worker at the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club by day.
Kudos to Patti Ornellas and her dynamic ohana of organizers on another great event where Aleigha “Red” Scovel got her softball sisters, family, and even coach Penny Vess and Penny’s mom Tina Brun to join the Relay team as a senior project at Kauai High School.
Kaytlen Akau was dancing with the Aloha Angels Dance Studio (great job, Tiffany Dodge!), but the cheerleaders from Kauai High School continued the tradition Kaytlen’s family started, and Peter Kruse (Kaeo Kruse of Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama is featured in the April SI Kids!) was able to get to the Relay after officiating at the KIF volleyball games (it was a good thing Island School had its prom that night).
So how do we top this for the Relay for Life of the North Shore in August?
