LIHUE — Kauai High School student athlete Kailee Arakaki pushed hard in the second heat of the girls 100-yard dash Thursday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation trials for the KIF championships at Vidinha Stadium.
Arakaki finished first in the heat, but did not get the time to compare with runners in the first heat.
“It was alright,” the Kauai High School runner said. “I just came to the meet with the goal of just running fast.”
Kapaa track coach Ron Velasco said the Thursday meet would run through its full complement of events. In addition to qualifying for state standards, the top eight finishers in the running events will advance to the KIF championships. For the longer distance runs, the top 12 will advance.
The KIF championships will take place April 22 starting at 4:30 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
Admission will be charged for this event.
