Kudos to Kauai Special Olympics coordinator Jocelyn Barriga and her huge ohana on a great Special Olympics track and field meet Saturday!
Kauai Police Dept. Lt. Rod Green (he has been so busy with “Legally Blonde,” he only got to watch it for the first time Friday) stepped in to lead the carrying of the Flame of Hope in lieu of Police Chief Darryl Perry (shake that bug, Chief!), and it was a chicken-skin moment to see all of the football players join the Troy Barboza Law Enforcement officers in carrying the torch into Vidinha Stadium.
Kudos to the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa (Diann Hartman’s wheels are working) who has been supporting the event for a long time, and Coach Erin Dunn was able to get up in time even if she was working at the KIF track and field championships Friday night, and Coach Tamarind Mapuhi was bummed she was going to miss the KIF boys volleyball game at Island School.
Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr., on the other hand, had a plateful of stuff, moving on to the Science Olympiad with Hawaii Senate President Ron Kouchi, then meeting up with Coach Justin Malina for certificate presentations to players from the Intermediate 50/70 World Series.
