LIHUE — Wednesday is Denim Day on Kauai, and starting at noon, a rally will be held at the Lihue Civic Center Moikeha rotunda where a proclamation from Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. will kick off the event.
The day’s purpose is to recognize sexual assault awareness month, and a number of local organizations are taking part in the event. It’s being hosted by The Zonta Club of Kauai, Zonta Club of Hanalei, KCSW, and the Kauai Violence Prevention Coalition.
Edie Ignacio-Neumiller, who is a member of the Zonta Club of Kauai and the Kauai Committee on the Status of Women, said the public should come out to demonstrate their support for survivors of sexual assault, especially on Denim Day.
“Denim Day serves as a call to action for everyone to wear denim as a sign of protest against sexual violence,” Ignacio-Neumiller said.
