This letter is in regard to the article JFF final report. Mr. Adler wrote that the residents of Kauai that are concerned with the Bio-tech companies are extremists. He seems to think we are delusional or eco-terrorists for worrying about the island being drenched in pesticides. We know we need more studies, that’s why we hired you and your committee. One year and $175,00.00 and this is all you can tell us. I know the final report is coming, but I am tired of your comments about concerned people being extremists. Let me remind you, if you haven’t seen this information yet, about what information was willingly given to us when these companies were complying with the Good Neighbor Program.
In December of 2013 a one month period:
Syngenta applied 13 RUP’s (restricted use pesticides) totaling 213 gallons and 366 pounds to 1,200 acres. 81 gallons of product contained Chlorpyrifos and 245 pounds contained Atrazine. Which is one of the worlds most controversial pesticides.
Dow Agro-Science applied 10 RUPs totaling 139 gallons to 873 acres.
Dupont/Pioneer applied 13 RUPs totaling 66 gallons and 13 pounds to 1,000 acres.
Now times this times 12 months, makes me want to cry.
So Mr. Adler wake up and smell the pesticides, we are being drenched in them. If you can’t acknowledge this then I think you are the wrong person to lead a Fact Finding Committee.
