Geraldine Mae Costa
Geraldine Mae Costa of Kalaheo, passed away at the age of 72 on March 24, 2016, on Kauai, Hawaii. Born on May 3, 1943, in Paia, Maui, she was an executive housekeeping for Nihi Kai Villas in Poipu and homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Antone L. Costa; son, Roger W. Costa; parents, Alfred C. Medeiros and Elizabeth M. Kauha; and Virginia and Nicholas Rivera; and brothers, Herbert C. Medeiros, Benjamin Francis Medeiros, and David Medeiros.
Geraldine is survived by her son, Richard S. Costa of Arizona; daughters, Ramona L. A. Costa of Hanapepe Heights, and Melanie R. Alesna of Kalaheo; 11 grandchildren;11 great-grandchildren, and hanai grandchildren; brother, Steven “Bruno” Medeiros of Pahoa, Hawaii; sister, Connie Francis Klein of Illinois; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. with Mass beginning at 10 a.m. Burial is to follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Casual attire is requested and flowers are welcomed.

Gloria Susanne Medeiros of Lihue passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 10, 2016, at the age of 72. She was born on Kauai on April 25, 1944, and retired from Home Depot as a phone operator.
Preceded in death by her grandson, Preston Lee Makana Ramson; sister, Martha Proulx and brother, Augustine Palacio.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Ernest Medeiros of Lihue; three daughters, Christina Medeiros (David Arzadon) of Lihue and her children, Jessica Calves, Jaerene Medeiros and Jacie Fabro; Gina Ramson of Kalaheo and her son, Skyler (Kyra) Ramson and his children, Zyrah Lee Kalena Ramson and Relyx Makana Ramson; Laurenne (Dyke) Nishimori of Lihue and her children, Seanna-Lynn (Ashley) Apana-Medeiros, Shania-Leigh Nishimori and Shai Nishimori; one son, Ernest L. (Sue) Medeiros of Washington and his son, Eric Rivera-Medeiros; siblings, Edward (Marie) Palacio of New Jersey, Ernest Palacio of Oklahoma, Theresa (Kennedy) Luis of Eleele, Dennis (Carlina) Palacio of Eleele, Fred Palacio of Maui, Shirleen Palacio of Eleele, Elisa Cline of Virginia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Medeiros family with arrangements.
Alfonso Mendoza Sr.
Alfonso Mendoza Sr. of Kekaha, born on Oct. 22, 1944, in BRGY #30 Cardaratan, Bacarra Ilocos Norte, Philippines, passed away at the age of 71, on May 9, 2016, at KVMH.
He is survived by his wife, Julita Daligcon Mendoza; two sons, Alex (Kaori) Mendoza in Colorado and Alfonso (Rochelle) Mendoza Jr. of Kekaha; two daughters, Almarie (Tobin) Teruya in Colorado and Rosie (Eric) Factora in Honolulu; five grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Jaime (Lovelyn) Yadao and Joven (Colleen) Bautista; half-sister, Florencia Balualua of Kaumakani; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Nirun Ruanjai) Yadao of Kekaha and Betty Mendoza in California and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Visitation will begin at noon with services at 1 pm. Burial will follow at the Kekaha Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers are welcomed.

Harold Richard Fernandez, age 79, of Ookala, Hawaii, died May 2, 2016, at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was born in Hilo, Hawaii on July 13, 1936, and was a retired Service Truck Driver for the former Hamakua Sugar Company and Security Guard for Global Protective Service, LLC at Laupahoehoe Transfer Station.
He is survived by wife, BettyAnn Fernandez of Ookala; son, Randall “Randy” Harold Fernandez of Papaaloa; daughters, June Matsuda of Volcano, Carolyn (Alfonso “Bradda”) Martin, Jr. of Kalaheo, Kauai and Desiree (Clyde) Kaluahine of Hanamaulu, Kauai; brothers, Ernest Thomas of Hilo, Sam Thomas, Sr. of Hilo, Leonard (Claire) Midallia of Papaaloa; sisters, Lyla Ann Midallia of Hilo, Lorraine (Kenneth) Acdal of Paauhau; brothers-in-law, Clyde Saragosa of Hilo, Charles Saragosa of Hilo and Albert Toralba of Hawaiian Oceanview Estates; sisters-in-law, Linda Midallia of Ookala, Margie Carter of Kauai, Evon Seyer of Las Vegas, Nevada, Molly (Roy) McRight of Kailua-Kona and Mona (Delbert) Costa, Sr. of Laupahoehoe; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Caroline Kahale born on Jan. 9, 1971, in Waimea, passed away on April 28, 2016, at the age of 45 in Kekaha.
She is preceded in death by James and Salala Kahale, Barbara Kahale, and Rhoda Pahulehua.

Lawrence Velez of Lihue, Hawaii, born on March 28, 1957, passed away on April 11, 2016, at the age of 59. He was a Security Guard for G4S Secure Solutions and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Patricia L. Velez and Alfred B. Velez; brother-in-laws, Macky Pimental and Jason Caldeira Sr.
Lawrence is survived by his brother, Benny (Leslie) Velez of Hilo, Hawaii; sisters, Linda Pimental of Kalaheo, Kauai and Charlotte (Sonny F.) Caldeira of Kekaha, Kauai; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Hanapepe Veteran’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. with services at 10 to 11 a.m.
The family requests casual attire.
