LIHUE — Mason Chock is seeking re-election to the Kauai County Council.
“I want to empower the voices of our community by responding to all who are willing to work collaboratively in solving our toughest issues on Kauai,” Chock said. “And, I want to continue to work on projects that I have started this term.”
Those nine initiatives include completing the budget plan. He also wants to preserve Kauai’s water sources by protecting streams, rivers, estuaries, tributaries, and accompanying sensitive areas through legislation.
“I want to help establish and support new economic drivers such as diversified agriculture that preserves the natural beauty of our ‘aina, our way of life, and rural character,” Chock said. “I also want to help solidify the process for the Open Space Commission to successfully act on reaching its goals in preserving Kauai’s trails, access, and cultural landmarks.”
Chock wants to see that the administrative rules are implemented and in place for recovering rescue expenses for operations which are a result of negligent and reckless action.
“I want to assist with our planning needs to address Kauai’s housing crisis for our kupuna, young families, and houseless,” he said. “I also want to seek waste diversion solutions that make sense, and fits our island’s solid waste plan, including the establishment of a materials recycling facility.”
Chock said he will continue to implement measures that reduce the price of running county government. These include mediation, deferred compensation measures, and strong community partnerships.
“I want to continue to facilitate building efficiency and capacity within county operations through leadership development as well as modeling a behavior on the county council that unites rather than segregates,” he said.
Chock said he is looking ahead to working on more issues including assisting with solidifying a funding source for the $100 million maintenance backlog of county roads.
“I would also like to strategize and act with other counties collectively to see that Kauai receives our fair share of Transient Accommodation Tax, and support measures that will continue to send the message to our state legislators of our resolve,” he said.
Chock said he wants to support the expansion of continuing and higher education opportunities on Kauai as well as address issues that impact the island’s high cost of living.
