Mahalo to Michelle O. Bomber for the heads-up on the triple bill roller derby match Saturday in Poipu. Seth and Paulette Peterson rolled up with the Kickshaw’s wagon just in time for the end of the first bout, and the next time in Poipu, gotta go check out the Strong Current coffee wagon.
Lois Andersson had her boat girls volunteering at the event, and even Vanessa Kelley showed up to check out the GIRR. The only guys missing out were Kevin Cadiente and Chris Ang (has he gone back to Oahu for summer break?).
Congratulations to Stephanie Shinno and all (43 of them!) her Lions at the new Kauai Lions Club. Mel Rapozo was most impressed with how the club works, and might be “tail twisted” into joining.
Naoko Ho said Dr. Randy Hirokawa, the keynote speaker at Waimea’s graduation, is Kura Hirokawa’s son. No wonder he knows Stan Delacruz. Naoko said she coached Randy on the school’s debate team.
Naoko was helping out at the sweet onion festival along with Sadie Doi (she was actually waiting to win an award) and Gutsy Oyama (no forget — West Kauai Hongwanji Mission, Waimea Temple bon dance, June 24 and 25!), and even Roy Miyashiro (when is the Soto Zen bon dance?) got some onions.
