For term limits, educated voters
Two things real quick. I believe that every elected office should have term limits. Politics should not be a career, it should be a passion.
Second is you should have to take a test and pass to be able to vote. If you don’t know what the candidate’s planks and platform are your vote should not count the same as mine ‘cause some people on the side of the road are waving at you and you recognize the name on the ballot.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

Plenty of time to admire the new Coco Palms
I couldn’t help but chuckle as I read Bruce Newport-Kilauano’s letter (TGI, May 7).
His hope that Coco Palms II will be completed “expeditiously” is no doubt wishful thinking. But what really tickled me was his comment that he’s looking forward to the day when he can drive past the property and enjoy the view of the new hotel.
Heck, Bruce, you’re going to have PLENTY of time to see it, since all the traffic will be completely stopped due to gridlock.

SB 2319 is right thing for Hawaii’s women
I am writing this today in strong support of SB 2319. Accessing birth control should be as easy as possible. This bill would allow women to pick up birth control just once a year. Having a year’s supply of birth control at a time would ensure that women across Hawaii are able to have consistent use and prevent unintended pregnancies.
If this bill passed, Hawaii would be the first state in the country to move forward with this innovative idea and require all insurers, public and private to cover 12 months of birth control at a time.
I urge the governor to sign SB 2319 to do the right thing for Hawaii’s women and increase access to the birth control we need.
Hawaii has a long history of standing up for expanded reproductive health access, even ensuring access to legal abortion before Roe v. Wade. Let’s do it again.
