Kauai betta breeder Liz Hahn tried something new.
“This is the first time I’ve selected fish for the Pairs judging,” Hahn said Saturday while waiting on results of the First Coast Bettas show in Florida. “There are some breeders in California who are on pins and needles waiting for the results as well. I keep getting texts, but no results.”
When the results were finally made available from the Saturday judging, Hahn was elated to learn that her entries in the Pairs judging had dominated the Division E: Breeder’s Division judging. Her pairs earned first- and third-place honors.
Her honors did not end with just those results, though.
The pairs entry also garnered Best of Variety Longfin Singletail Female honors, one of three she received for her fish. The pairs entry also earned Reserve Best of Variety for Longfin Singletail Male, one of four awards she earned in the Special Show Award.
These awards helped her earn overall Best of Show Grand Champion for her pairs, and overall Reserve Best of Show for her Light Solid Singletail Female which earlier had collected top honors in that division judging.
These results help her world standings, where she was ranked No. 2 following the recent California show, and puts her in solid contention with just one more show remaining before the big convention where final standings are tallied.
Hahn, a regular vendor at the Kauai Community Market, also captured seven first-place honors of 19 categories in the Variety A and three first-place awards in Variety B.
The breeder who works out of the Westside rounded out her cache of awards in the Variety.
The show featured 11 entrants with a total of 119 fish being judged.
