Kaui Tanaka was thrilled to have Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino (remember her from Junior Golf days?) come home to play golf during the David S. Ishii Foundation HHSAA state golf championships.
Kudos to Stephen Perry, Natalie Iwamoto, and Kauai High School athletic director Keli‘i Morgado on hosting a great championship series. Kudos to Ian Costa and the Parks people (those Wailua guys sure looked sharp in those blue outfits) on getting the course to championship quality.
Lauren Yama of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association had a great crew working the live scoring, and it was nice to see Naea Oda out on the golf course, again. Mary Bea Porter King (yes, now we know it’s golf!) had Coach Billy Brown’s (he’s coaching the Palau Olympic Swim Team) aunt here from Maui, and on top of everything, David Ishii got to come home to present the awards.
The tournament was so good even Chris Ang the Kapaa trainer dropped to to check on Samantha Coloma, and Kevin Cadiente who left everyone stranded during the girls’ playoff (Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. still managed to get in the awards before rushing off for the Surfrider proclamation).
