LIHUE — Veronica Sakaguchi arrived at American Savings Bank with two floral arrangements in addition to her daily deposits from Sushi Bushido.
“I told my son I had to make these flowers because the bank was celebrating its opening,” Sakaguchi said. “I thought they would do the blessings at 8 a.m. so we could do banking by 8:30.”
American Savings Bank celebrated the opening of its Hokulei Branch Friday morning under a blanket of the cool morning air and strains of music from the Victor Punua family.
“This brings back memories,” said Ed Punua. “I was just looking at a photograph of my mom and dad doing the groundbreaking for the Kukui Grove branch.”
The Kukui Grove branch closed last Friday in preparation for the opening of the branch at the Hokulei Village Shopping Center
“For more than 40 years, American Savings Bank has been supporting the dreams of the businesses and residents of Kauai by offering a full range of services, including checking and savings accounts, loans, investment and residential mortgage products,” said Richard Wacker, president and CEO of American Savings Bank. “We are committed to the continued growth on Kauai.”
Ivory Lloyd, Kauai district manager for Junior Achievement, said American Savings Bank allows several of its people to help with the financial literacy program being presented at Kapaa High School.
To celebrate the opening of the ASB Hokulei Branch, Wacker was joined by Stacy Waikoloa, Hokulei Branch manager and ASB assistant vice president, in presenting the Junior Achievement with a $3,000 contribution for its financial literacy program.
“We are happy to present this new home for our team of professionals,” Wacker said. “This new branch will house mortgage loan officers, include safe deposit boxes, a drive-up teller, an ATM machine, and room to enjoy the banking experience.”
