LIHUE — Officers with the Kauai Police Department and members of the U.S. Marshals Hawaii Task Force arrested 21 wanted fugitives on Kauai following a four-day operation that began Monday.
The fugitive arrests took place across the island and resulted in the execution of 36 outstanding arrest warrants and a total bail amount of approximately $400,000.
Officers recovered a loaded firearm and illegal drugs during the mission. All evidence is being processed by KPD and could result in additional charges.
“The support of the U.S. Marshals Hawaii Task Force helped our department to apprehend a large number of violent criminals in a very short timeframe,” said Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry. “This partnership has made a huge impact in our community and we are appreciative of everyone’s efforts.”
The operation targeted individuals with outstanding felony arrest warrants who were wanted on violent crimes and drug offenses.
One of the fugitives captured was 35-year-old Cheri Numazawa, confirmed a county spokeswoman.
Numazawa is facing 28 drug-related felonies across seven cases, with the most recent indictment filed against her on Thursday.
The U.S. Marshals Hawaii Task Force includes representatives from federal, state, and county law enforcement agencies.
