KALAHEO — Grace Sabo, of the Kaulupono Division 2 girls, bucketed a goal to break a 4-4 deadlock with 7:57 remaining in the game Monday night during the summer league basketball games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The goal sparked a late-game Kaulupono scoring run where the girls, coached by Pedro Saligumba, came from a 4-2 halftime deficit to collect an 18-8 win over the Kauai Lynx Division 2 girls.
Liana Hasegawa finished with high-point honors for Kaulupono with eight points and bucketed her last net at 1:01 for what appeared to be the 16-8 winning combination.
With 30 ticks remaining, Kaulupono got a last hiccup from Katelyn Constantino for the final math. The goal was Constantino’s sole score in the game.
Sabo, who sparked the scoring comeback, finished with four points. Shylah Rita-Bagaoisan and ChaLeiah Lancaster-Fabro each finished with pairs.
Jazmine Balauro-Constantino netted high-point honors for the Division 2 Kauai Lynx on four points, with Joleina Cumlat and Emma Burgess each getting a pair.
Kaulupono continued its winning ways when the Division 3 girls, under the coaching for Bobby Kamakele, got 16 points from Kierstin Gummerus and 10 points from Braelyn Cayaban for its 40-21 showing over the Kauai Lynx, who were led by Jessica Cezar netting 10 points and Jasmyne Ballesteros getting six marks.
Papalina White coaches Clyde Vito and Sean Andrade were happy with the showing of its Division 4 boys.
“We were up against the older Papalina boys,” Andrade said. “All things considered, the boys (Papalina White) did well. They got to score tonight.”
B. Gillman did the honors for Papalina White with four second-half points and a first-half pair from K. Andrade accounted for the 21-6 math as Papalina Orange took the victory off the floor behind seven points from AJ and four points apiece from Hans Burkman and Hekili Dizol.
Games continue Thursday with three games on tap at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center starting at 6 p.m., and three games scheduled for Kapaa, also starting at 6 p.m.
