Michael Allen Mills
Michael Allen Mills of Kilauea passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 3, 2016, at the age of 62. He was born in Illinois on June 17, 1953, and was a well-known avid golfer at Wailua Golf Course for many years.
Michael is survived by his longtime sweetheart, Angela Smallidge of Kilauea; a daughter, Tracy Mills and her son, Anthony Bicknell; and a son Michael P. Mills all of Arizona; brothers, Robert (Ruby) Mills and J.R. (Ginny) Mills; sister, Verna Jones all of Illinois; his late brother Paul’s widow, Joy Mills of Lihue; Angela’s children, Roseann Rush, Lenore Maggs, Gregory Smallidge, Kathryn McCormack, Jeffery Austin and their families; numerous nieces and nephews.
Randy Smith
Randy Smith, known by many as the corn man of Kilauea, left his fields on Kuawa Road on May 16, 2016. He was born in California on Feb. 4, 1950.
Randy is survived by his mother, Erma, his sisters Barbara and Carol, brother-in-law David, niece Bonnie and nephew Scott. As well as his loyal four-legged companion, Luigi Smith, fondly known as Louie. Family requests donations be made to Kauai Humane Society in memory of Randall Smith.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Christ Memorial Church beginning at 10 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Gilbert Owen Furtado
Gilbert Owen Furtado, 70, of Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii, passed away on May 25, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gilbert was born in Waimea to Manuel Furtado and Kiyono Furtado Hookano on Sept. 2, 1945. He went to Waimea High School and graduated Class of 1963.
After his 4-year service in the U.S. Army, he worked as a diplomat for the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State for 30 years. He touched the lives of the many people he met worldwide during his travels abroad and stateside. He received countless awards of excellence during his tenure in the Foreign Service and was greatly involved in the many facets of Soka Gakkai USA, helping to spread compassion and enlightenment through Buddhism.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Keiko, his sons, Gilbert Jr. and Miyuki, as well as his sisters, Arlene Kuapahi and Leiala Hookano. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Patricia Han and his beloved grandchildren, Kyle Furtado and Minori Furtado. He is preceded in death by his brother Manuel Lani Furtado and sister Mary-Ann Nitta.
Funeral service will be held at Kauai Veterans Center, 3215 Kapule Highway, Lihue, on July 7 at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery, 4331 Lele Rd., Hanapepe, HI 96716.

Herbert ‘Chico’ Frasco
Herbert “Chico” Frasco passed away surrounded by his family and loved ones on June 4, 2016, at the age of 75. He was born on Dec. 13, 1940, in Kona, Hawaii. After graduating from Hilo High School in 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 12 years. He resided in Kekaha Gardens and was employed by PMRF as a Boat Captain and retired after 43 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebiro “Cadiz” Frasco, Louise and Phillip Aguilar; brothers, Wilfred “Hano” Kaulukou and Howard Kalani Frasco; parents-in-law, Elizabeth and Damiano Lazaro; brothers-in-law, Andrew “Bla” Lazaro, Damiano “Gundy” Lazaro, Patrick “Paleka” Lazaro, and Ski Wisneski; sisters-in-law, Althea Lazaro, Caroline Ho‘opi‘i and Ethel DelaCruz.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Barbara Frasco; sons, Herbert Frasco of Kekaha, Howard (Kim) Frasco of Eleele, and Brandon Frasco of Kekaha; daughter, Barbie Jo Frasco of Kekaha; siblings, Reynold “Maka” Frasco of Hilo, Hawaii, Lei (Larry) Bernades, Wayne (Barbara) Aguilar, and Susan (Doug) Latham of Waianae, Oahu; hanai children, Chad Kahawai and Angel Kaohelauli‘i of Pakala; grandchildren, Bradley Frasco, Keanu Frasco Rull, Pono Rull, Brooke, Hallie, Khloe and Mehana Frasco; great-grandchildren, Aleyah and Ayden Frasco Rull; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.
A celebration of Chico’s life will be held at MacArthur Park in Kekaha on Friday, June 24, 2016. Friends may visit with the family at 12 noon with services and a luncheon to follow.
The family suggests causal attire and flowers are welcomed.

Barbara F. Funamura
Barbara F. Funamura of Koloa passed away at the age of 78 on May 12, 2016, at home. She was born in Lihue in April 1938 and was a nutritionists and entrepreneur as well as the originator of the “spam musubi.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Hanako Fujita; sons, Stanley and Daniel Funamura II; and sister Lurene Ota.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Dan Funamura; son, Mark of Koloa; daughter, Joni (Rodney) Funamura-Sasil of Lihue; grand-daughter, Justice Funamura-Sasil of Lihue; brother, Calvin (Arlene) Fujita of Wailua; sister, Linda Fujita of Honolulu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Hanapepe Hongwanji. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers are being declined.
