More than a hundred young dancers took the stage during the Na Hula O Kaohikupakulani under the direction of Kumu Hula Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza Hula Hoike 2016.
The event celebrates the halau’s 34th anniversary and showcased the achievements of its members as the halau takes a break for the summer.
“As Kumu Hula, I continue to share Polynesian dance with my students as I was taught by Na Kumu Hula Lovey Apana, Joseph Kahaulelio, Frank Kahala and Tahitian teacher Tetu Kameenui,” Kinimaka-Alquiza said. “Without their knowledge, expertise, and love for dance and culture, I could not have been here for as long as I have.”
The hoike was also graced by the talent of No Te Here O Tiare, a halau from Oahu who is directed by Jason and Kaleinani Guillory Kinimaka.
