KALAHEO — Moni Malafu fired off 16 points before fouling out Monday night in summer league basketball.
The effort was enough to keep the Kapaa Division 4 boys team ahead of Papalina Orange as Kapaa took a 37-34 win in the first of three games played at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Kapaa also got eight points from Keaka Kauhane and five points apiece from Ceejay Vidinha and Michael Questin in the win.
A Jay Wilson set the pace for Papalina Orange with 13 points followed by Hekili Dizol adding 11 points and Nainoah Bacarro finishing with eight points.
Syrus Delos Reyes set the tempo for Team Lihue in the second matchup, threading traffic and securing putbacks for a game-high 15 points in Team Lihue’s 41-17 victory over the Lihue Lakers. Delos Reyes combined with the size of Elijah Lautej to control the inside as Lautej added 11 points to the win. Justin Gummerus fired off a pair from outside the three-point arc for six points toward the victory.
Daniel Kaili Pa led the Lakers with six points followed by Kelsen Rapozo and Austin Renaud each adding three points.
Kai Riopta netted 11 points and Daesen Martinez added nine points to lead the Lihue Warriors to a 30-2 showing over Papalina White who got its pair from Christian Vito during the final matchup of the night.
Games continue at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center and Kapaa starting at 6 p.m. Thursday.
