PUHI — Ten graduates of the 87th Police Recruit Class were sworn in by Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry on Thursday.
Perry welcomed the new officers into a profession where the face of law enforcment is changing dramatically. The officers accepted their badges from Perry, Kauai Police Commission Chair Charles Iona, and Hawaii Senate President Ron Kouchi before a crowd of several hundred people at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center.
“This is a brand new day,” Iona said. “The months it has taken to get to this point speaks volumes of your desire to be police officers. There are challenges ahead, but everything will be OK because the people of Kauai believe in the police department.”

The 87th Recruit Class is made up of a variety of people ranging from an individual with 14 years of police experience to an active military officer. But we had one thing in common. We trained under the theme of one team, one dream.”
