KAPAA — Officials at the Hawaii Little League Majors State Tournament were tracking the movement of Tropical Storm Darby Saturday.
“We’re watching the storm,” said Richard Ota, the tournament director, at the Main Diamond inside the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Memorial Sports Complex in Kapaa. “It’s too early to say right now what we’re going to do. But we’re keeping an eye on things and make the right call when the time is right.”
Two games are scheduled for today, the first one starting at 10 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m., featuring the Kaneohe Majors All Stars who locked up a 6-5 win over Waipio in the final inning Saturday morning at the Main Diamond.
The National Weather Service, in a Saturday afternoon update, forecast Darby to pass south of Maui County early today, and pass close to Oahu and Kauai late today or Monday.
Darby has a poorly defined center and is expected to weaken over the next few days. However, locally strong winds, with the possibility of minor wind damage and heavy rain, were possible.
