LIHUE — Wallace Rezentes, Jr. was sworn in Friday by County Clerk Jade Tanigawa as the county’s new managing director.
He replaces Nadine Nakamura, who resigned to pursue an elected position in state government.
Having served for nearly 14 years as the finance director under former mayors Maryanne Kusaka and the late Bryan Baptiste, as well as Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr., Rezentes is familiar with county finances and operations.
“We’re very happy to have Wally on our team again,” Carvalho said. “He has the skills, expertise and experience to handle this key position in county government, and to help us complete our Holo Holo projects.”
“I am grateful to the mayor for the opportunity to return to county government, and to serve the people of Kauai again,” said Rezentes. “It is an honor to work on the mayor’s team as well as the County Council toward our common goals.”
Rezentes said he plans to quickly get up to speed in areas that the county is focusing on including affordable housing, transportation, and the adolescent treatment and healing center.
Prior to becoming the managing director, Rezentes was employed as a business banking officer for First Hawaiian Bank, and has over 12 years of commercial lending and private sector experience.
Rezentes serves on the boards of Kauai Economic Opportunity, Inc., Kauai Museum and the Waipa Foundation.
He is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and received a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Hawaii.
Rezentes is married to Pualani Rezentes. He has three children, Haylee, 25, Ryan, 23, and Kaeo, 13.
