KIPU — Mark Maurin is happy he has a Subaru Forester.
He and Ambyr Estrada walked out of the Kauai Humane Society with not one, but two adopted cats Saturday during the Subaru Hawaii Pet Adoption Day event.
“This was free,” Estrada said. “Mark has an older model Forester, and they just gave us the voucher. Subaru is paying the adoption fees. I also have a Forester.”
Laura Lee of the Kauai Humane Society said the couple was in a few days earlier to check out Gambit for possible adoption.
“But the animal was only sleeping,” she said. “They ended up adopting Becky. Today, they came back and adopted Brian, Becky’s sibling, and Gambit.”
During the Subaru Hawaii Pet Adoption Day, registered Subaru owners had the opportunity to adopt a pet for free after presenting their key as verification of their Subaru ownership. People who do not own Subaru had an opportunity to spin a wheel with varying discounts on adoption fees.
In addition to getting adoption fees waived, the new owners received a free pet starter goodie bags and a $25 Petco gift card.
“Subaru Hawaii really has an emphasis on adoptions,” Lee said. “Each of the events on the other islands had to do with adopting animals. Kauai was not able to do this during June, and Dan Nanbu of Servco Kauai said this was an available weekend. Dan is so good because he always wants to do promotional campaigns with the Kauai Humane Society.”
For the Subaru Hawaii Pet Adoption Day, Nanbu brought over a Subaru Forester, specially decorated for the occasion, where people could deposit pet food contributions to benefit the Kauai Humane Society’s Gomez’ Galley.
