Red Cross seeks volunteers in preparation for hurricanes
The Hawaii Red Cross is calling down hundreds of volunteers in preparation for Hurricane Madeline and Hurricane Lester.
Everyone from shelter, mental health, and health workers to damage assessment, case workers, and logistics volunteers are on standby.
Padriac Gallagher, director of Disaster Services for Kauai, said more volunteers are always welcome, especially during times like these.
“Potentially these storms could be big and more help we have more people we can help,” Gallagher wrote.
Those who can’t volunteer can still help by ensuring that they prepare for any potential bad weather and check on their relatives and neighbors.
“The more we are all prepared the better off we all will be,” Gallagher said.
The Hawaii Red Cross continually recruits, trains and mobilizes volunteers to help those in need to respond to disasters like Hurricane Madeline and Hurricane Lester.
“We need our communities prepared for disasters before they occur. One critical piece is to have trained volunteers on standby and ready to respond,” Coralie Chun Matayoshi, CEO of the Hawaii Red Cross.
