POIPU — Valerie Roland of the Poipu Shopping Village said having the Polynesian revue and a fire knife dancer is a good way to end the week-long Koloa Plantation Days celebration.
“The revue with Mi Nei Oliver Martins is exciting and the people always come out to watch the fire knife dancer,” Roland said. “This is a nice way to end the festivities — with a bang.”
Urahutia worked the audience with a tour that started with Tahitian otea and aparima, moving through the different regions of the Pacific with a sampling of Hawaiian hula and Maori dance before settling at Samoa, the home of the fire knife dance.
The Koloa Plantation Days finished its week-long celebration Sunday with the Keoki’s Ukes in Paradise Keiki ‘Ukulele Competition at the Keoki’s Paradise, also at the Poipu Shopping Village. The event drew a host of competitors ranging from kindergarten through high school, including visiting players from Germany and California.
But things won’t go quiet at the shopping village.
“We also have the Kauai Juice Co. opening its third store Thursday,” Roland said. “They’ll also be participating in the sidewalk sale Poipu Shopping Village has coming up on Aug. 12 and 13.”
