LIHUE — Morning showers could not dampen the spirit of motorcycle riders who gathered Sunday for the 4th annual Bikers, Bridges & BBQ fundraiser for Life’s Bridges at Rob’s Good Times Grill in the Rice Shopping Center.
“We’re going to ride,” said Russell Haluapo. “Rain, or shine, Life’s Bridges responds.”
Haluapo was among the 45 riders who participated in the Mystery Poker Run as a fundraiser for Life’s Bridges, a volunteer-based organization that provides grief and bereavement services.
“Rob Silverman is bringing the lunch down to the Niumalu Canoe Club hale,” said Gina Kaulukukui, leader of Life’s Bridges. “People who don’t ride motorcycles, or those who did not do the poker run because of the weather, are able to come and enjoy the lunch and games (for prizes).”
Riders made stops along the Westside, picking up poker numbers from Iron Circle volunteers at designated stations from Lihue to Kekaha, then returning with their “hands” for final tabulation at the luncheon.
“This is such a good event,” said Maile Bryant, a Life’s Bridges volunteer. “Normally, you don’t see the different motorcycle clubs crossing over and participating. But this is such a great way to get to know these people better. They’re all good people, and it’s nice to get to know them better.”
