The multi-platinum selling country act, Thompson Square is making its first performance on Kauai on Aug. 24 at Poipu Beach Athletic Club.
The country duo Shawna and Keifer Thompson has been married for 17 years and has been performing as Thompson Square for over 10 years.
“We met in Nashville, right when we both moved there. We’ve been playing music for a long time and music brought us together,” Keifer said.
Thompson Square is a two-time ACM “Vocal Duo of the Year” winner and a four-time nominee. The band holds a 2012 Country Music Awards “Vocal Duo of the Year” and a two-time Grammy, American Music Award and Teen Choice Award nominee.
“We did a Navy entertainment tour about two years ago in Oahu, but this is our first time performing on Kauai and we’re really excited,” Keifer said about the upcoming performance. “We’re bringing a few of our songwriting buddies and our six-month-old son will be with us through the whole tour. It’s gonna be great.”
The couple works together writing most of the lyrics. When it comes to where the inspiration comes from, Keifer said it comes from everywhere.
“Certain situations that we’ve dealt with in life, help guide inspiration for new songs,” he said. “The birth of our son, has really contributed to some of those lyrics.”
One of the duo’s hit song “If I Didn’t Have You” is a favorite for Keifer.
“It came from a sad place in our life, and when you can relate to a song, it quickly becomes more than just music and is one of our favorites,” Keifer said in an interview.
The band is set to release its hird album through Stoney Creek Records later this year or early 2017, and said there will be a preview of some of those songs during the concert.
Keifer said, him and his wife plan to “just be ourselves, have fun and do what we enjoy.”
Doors open 5:30 p.m., concert to start at 8. The band is set to perform for about 75 minutes.
