HANAPEPE — A water conservation request for about 1,600 people on the Westside was lifted Wednesday morning.
Officials with the Department of Water were informed that a Department of Land and Natural Resources contractor involved with a slope stability project lost control of a boulder and damaged a 40-foot water transmission line on Ko Road in Eleele around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Water tanks holding 2 million gallons of water supplemented about 942 customers in Hanapepe and 712 customers in Hanapepe during the department’s repairs.
Officials with the water department said the event could not have been prevented by the DOW.
The department lifted its water conservation request to residents on at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
