There were ohana parties everywhere — from the trees at the Nawiliwili Park to the shaded areas along the walk fronting the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club (Paul Toner and Kaupena Kinimaka did a great job making sure everyone was comfortable). Kudos to Char Ravelo, the Ohana Wa‘a, and Na Kalai Wa‘a o Kaua‘i on a great celebration of Namahoe.
Marshall Mock said it took the efforts of everyone to make Namahoe finally get in the water. Bill Arakaki had his family out for the Sunday outing, and Kauai Community College chancellor Helen Cox (she was so excited she forgot her paddle) got to be on one of the canoes along with John Latkiewicz. Alton and Sheri Amimoto had the right vantage points for Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala hula, and even Colleen Kai‘mina‘auao (Congrats on being named director of the University Center!) was out to celebrate with Dennis Chun, John Kruse, and the many other hands who contributed to Namahoe.
Mike Teruya was pretty much camped out in Nawiliwili, and Serge Marcil missed doing video because he had to work.
OK, time to go check out the air riflery match between Waimea and Kauai high schools. This one should be exciting.
