PUA LOKE — Stephanie Fernandez, homeless and housing director for Kauai Economic Opportunity, said items such as the care packages she received from the Zonta Club of Kauai go out really fast.
“We at Kauai Economic Opportunity have several homeless and transitional housing programs, including the Care-a Van, the emergency shelter program, transitional housing, and the recently-opened day center,” Fernandez said, accepting a portion of care packages prepared by the Zonta Club of Kauai, Saturday. “The day center, the newest program, allows people to visit from 7 a.m. when the emergency shelter closes. They have a place with resources for finding jobs, preparing resumes, and other resources. Items like the care package, and the personal care supplies we received from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program don’t last long. They go out real fast.”
Fernandez shared the care packages prepared by the Zonta Club of Kauai with the Women in Need program.
The service project prepared and executed under terms of the Weinberg Foundation Friends program resulted in a $10,000 grant to the Kauai Independent Food Bank.
