If you think about it, if it weren’t for hunting, our societies would not even exist. And on Kauai, hunting, especially bowhunting, is still quite popular! Even in our film and television culture we see our warriors and warrior princesses with bows! Every year many people spend their free time roaming the wilds of this island in search of good hunting (so watch out you wandering tourists! Kidding, of course). And the sport has evolved far beyond the simple bow and arrow! Bowhunting actually requires even greater skill than using a gun! Yet even the best always like to learn more, especially when learning from other experts!
This is where “Field & Stream’s The Total Bowhunting Manual – 261 Essential Skills” comes in handy. Authors Scott Bestul and Dave Hurteau have been bowhunting for decades and are considered some of the greats in their field. Together, they provide the bowhunter with a comprehensive overview of practically every facet of the sport one could think of for both men and women, beginner or expert, and for any type of bow user, be they vertical or crossbows. Their manual is full-color with excellent images and diagrams, accessible to everyone.
Whether one is actually using a bow to hunt with or is simply practicing the skill of archery, “The Total Bowhunting Manual” covers all of it. The first part is dedicated to understanding the differences in bows and arrows and all their pieces, providing excellent technical information as well including tips on aim, stance, etc. The rest of the book covers a bevy of hunting subjects, including bowhunting specific types of animals such as deer, pig, and even fish (we never heard of bowhunting for fish before this!).
So for those looking to sharpen their “sharpshooting,” this is a great guide to delve into!
