LIHUE — A community meeting to celebrate the recent approval of Alakai O Kauai Public Charter School is scheduled 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Kauai War Memorial and Convention Hall.
The celebration includes a silent auction, food and entertainment.
Kani “Dr. B” Blackwell hopes Friday’s gathering will generate information about the school’s mission. She also wants to get input from the community about where the school should be located, and hopes landowners or philanthropists will help the school find a home.
When it opens, the school will serve students from kindergarten to fourth-grade.
The school was unanimously approved by the Hawaii State Charter School Commission on Aug. 11.
