What is the paradigm for wholesome education in the 21st Century? For this understanding, the meaning of education needs to be understood.
The empowering word, education, traces back to the Latin word, “educare.” This word means to draw out, lead to, or bring forth that which lies within. It also includes putting into motion that which is brought out or learned.
The archetype of the letter “Ll” is the enlightened teacher of all stages, systems and philosophies of education. The design of this letter reveals its meaning, learning and teaching. When you write the “L,” you begin with a vertical line and complete the letter with a horizontal line. The vertical line represents receiving knowledge, wisdom, values and/or inspiration in accordance with your desires and intentions.
The horizontal line is a reminder to apply what has been learned in chosen areas of expression. In education the teacher shares with the student what has been learned, while at the same time draws forth from the student its own knowledge attained from within on the topic being discussed.
The letter “L” emphasizes that the heart must be included in the learning process, for it is the heart that is the source of intuitive wisdom and direct knowledge.
The letter “l” teaches you to look to your heart for guidance and direction. In following the design of the cursive letter “l,” there is movement from the heart to the realm of wisdom and knowledge, followed by movement back to the heart for learning, expression and sharing.
This letter design also includes abstract thinking and imagination to enlarge upon what has been learned, in order that the conceptual knowledge or directive wisdom can be implemented.
The archetype of the letter “Ll” encourages you to learn more about your nature, to understand the stages of progressive refinement of your mind, heart and physiology, and to be attentive to subtle changes happening biologically and environmentally.
This letter emphasizes the importance of understanding your relationship to the earth and her geology. There needs to be an interdependent harmony between you and the earth for your internal and external balance.
The archetype of the letter “Ll” encourages that education of the 21st Century draws forth from the students the realization of their relatedness to the earth and to the source of universal wisdom, knowledge, and values.
This is the way the students are prepared to be contributing citizens of the world. Education, then, is in resonance with the ideals of the 21st Century.
