Thirty horseshoe pitchers from across Hawaii convened in Anahola for the two-day event, which was played on Sept. 3-4.
In the first day, players competed in a class round-robin format tournament.
Wyatt Kamoku, of Anahola, won the A class with a 7-2 record and a 41.67 percent ringer average. Linda Taketa, of Kailua-Kona, was second with a 6-3 record and a 54.72 percent ringer average. Melvin Eli, of Waianae, was third with a 6-3 record and 49.17 percent ringer average.
John Kaua, of Anahola, won the B class with an 8-2 record and 27.78 ringer average. Joseph Koko, of Anahola, was second with a 7-3 record and a 24.17 ringer average. Kimo Zablan, of Honolulu, was third with a 6-2 record and an 18.75 percent ringer average.
Lopaka Kamoku, of Anahola, won the C class with a 7-2 record and a 19.17 percent ringer average. Cindy Lund, of Kapaa, was second with a 6-3 record and a 20.56 average. Howard Kamoku, of Anahola, was third with a 5-2 record and a 21.57 ringer average.
Keoki Fernandez, of Ewa Beach, won the D class with a 7-2 record and a 13.57 ringer average. Elijah Taguchi, of Anahola, was second with a 6-3 record and 8.57 ringer average.
Players then competed in a division round-robin tournament for the state championship on day two.
Melvin Eli, of Waianae, won the mens division with a ringer average of 48.05 percent. Tiffany Lastimosa, or Kailua-Kona, won the womens division with an average of 48.50 percent.
Howard Kamoku Sr. won the senior mens division with an average of 23.0 percent.
Joseph Koko, of Anahola, won the elders division with an average of 33.0 percent. Kaohu Gutierrez-Kelly, of Anahola, won the junior division with an average of 19.0 percent.
The Hawaii State Horseshoe Pitchers’ Association is an organized horseshoe pitching association formed in 1986. The charter has about 125 members in the state.
