PUHI — The Board of Directors of the Kauai Humane Society has selected a new leader for the shelter following the retirement of Penny Cistaro.
Scott Pisani will take the helm in early November.
Pisani comes to the island from Arizona with a broad range of experience. He most recently held the position of vice president of field operations and animal experience at the Arizona Humane Society.
“I am excited about the opportunity to lead Kauai Humane Society. I understand that the island has a number of unique challenges and I look forward to working with the staff, volunteers and community to address issues and move forward,” Pisani said. “My wife and I visited last year on our honeymoon and really enjoyed the island. We took dogs out for the day with the fantastic field trip program and realized we’d love to make this our home.”
Pisani held upper-level human resources management positions in the finance and tax industries for nearly 20 years before he decided he wanted to make a greater contribution and began his second career in animal services.
Pisani said he welcomed the opportunity to learn each specialty in animal welfare and held positions at AHS including overseeing field and medical operations, animal services, adoptions and customer service.
“We are confident in Scott’s ability to build strong teams both internally and within the community and look forward to this next chapter. We are really pleased with the wealth of varied experience Scott brings,” said Emily Larocque, president of the Board of Directors.
Cistaro, who was hired in 2013, will continue to guide KHS into early November.
