HANAPEPE — Diane Nitta, the secretary for the Kauai Interscholastic Federation, announced that football games will be held at Hanapepe Stadium today and next Saturday.
County officials announced Friday that major improvements to the stadium were completed last week. Cushnie Construction was the general contractor for the $1.87 million project.
“We are pleased that our families will be able to enjoy the KIF football games, and other events at the newly refurbished Hanapepe Stadium,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. “A big mahalo to everyone involved in this project. Their efforts helped to ensure that the improvements would be finished in time for this weekend’s games.”
The Kauai Pop Warner Football League, in a revised schedule, also has games taking place at Hanapepe Stadium starting in November.
The scope of work for the Hanapepe Stadium included demolition and removal of the wooden bleachers and the installation of new aluminum bleachers with accommodations for the Americans with Disabilities Act, concrete walkways, a new announcer’s booth, a new football scoreboard, and a new baseball scoreboard.
Game time for the Saturday KIF football game between Waimea High School and Kapaa High School is noon for the junior varsity match followed by the varsity teams kicking off approximately 30 minutes following the completion of the JV game.
