Kaya Ramirez, whose house was destroyed by fire in Lawai, was able to do her Junior Referee duty and still play with the Rush Under 18 boys team because of the generosity and compassion of the Kauai Soccer Association, said her mom Michelle Alimboyoguen.
Kevin Devitt, KSA commissioner, said when the Rush team in Honolulu heard about Kaya’s misfortune, they did a collection and arranged for uniforms so she could continue with her season.
Other good sports were out on Sunday as Billy DeCosta came over to congratulate Enoc McKeague on Kapaa’s football win on Saturday at the Hanapepe Stadium (we go back there this week when Waimea celebrates its homecoming).
Kudos to Leialoha Sanchez and Shaunte Sadora who have been busy with the Week without Violence (candlelight vigil tonight from 5 p.m. at the St. Michael’s and All Angels Church) clothesline project at the Kauai Community College (today is the last day to do a shirt from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
Don’t forget the American Foundation for suicide prevention Out of Darkness awareness walk on Saturday at the Kauai Community College. Gina Kaulukukui said Life’s Bridges will probably have a table at the event, and Michelle Kimura of Kauai Coffee is spearheading the free event (donations accepted).
