LIHUE — Kauai Island Utility Cooperative has selected Beth Tokioka as its new communications manager, effective Nov. 7.
Tokioka is currently the community outreach manager for Syngenta Hawaii LLC. Prior to that, she spent 20 years with the County of Kauai. During her tenure with the County, she served as the public information officer under Mayor Maryanne Kusaka, and as the director of communications for six years under Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr. She also worked as the Director of Economic Development from 2003-2008 under the late Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste.
“We are excited to have Beth join us,” said David Bissell, KIUC president and CEO. “Her experience and knowledge of our island community will be an asset to our KIUC ohana.”
After earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Michigan State University, Tokioka worked for several years in radio and television news production and the hotel sales industry in the San Francisco Bay area before moving to Kauai in 1992.
Tokioka is a member of the Board of Water Supply, and serves on the boards of the Kauai Chamber of Commerce, the Kauai United Way and the Kamehameha Schools Association of Kauai. She is also an advisory board member for the Hawaiii Foodbank — Kauai chapter.
“It is an honor to join the nationally-recognized team at KIUC and play a role in meeting the needs of its membership while expanding the cooperative’s renewable energy portfolio,” Tokioka said.
