LIHUE — Lihue Red Raiders Mitey Mites quarterback Racen Pegeder ran for two touchdowns to lead the Red Raiders to a 16-6 showing over the Koloa Redskins Mitey Mites Sunday during the Kauai Pop Warner Football League games at Vidinha Stadium.
Pegeder broke a 0-0 deadlock in the second quarter, peeling off touchdown runs of 37 and 33 yards, respectively. He also graced each score by booting the point-after for a 16-0 lead at the break.
Koloa prevented the shutout when Benjamin Baxter bulled a yard into the end zone with 3:21 remaining in the contest.
Koloa Redskins Junior Varsity quarterback Chet Pimsaguan went to the airways, hitting receivers in the end zone for all of its touchdowns in Koloa’s 35-0 win over the Kapaa Eagles in the first of two JV matches.
Pimsaguan hit Lono Kaneko for 13 yards to get Koloa on the scoreboards and followed that with a connection to Robbie Correa for nine yards. Greg Manintin found the end zone on the ground for the point-after to give Koloa an early 13-0 bulge.
With 5:22 showing in the half, Pimsaguan connected with Keanu Fernandez for the first time in the game for a 14-yard score. Joey Sams split the uprights on the point-after for the 21-0 lead at the break.
Coming out of halftime, Pimsaguan found Fernandez at the end of a four-yard touchdown to trigger the running clock. That did not stop Koloa because Pimsaguan found Manintin for a 6-yard score, Sams doing the point-after boot for the 35-0 final.
Makoa Vanaman picked up three touchdowns, and Elijah Henderson added two more scores to lead the Hanapepe Colts Junior Varsity to a 40-6 win over the Lihue Red Raiders JV in the second JV match of the day.
Lihue quarterback Ellsworth Kaleiohi II handed the pigskin to Carter Chihara who bulled a yard to the end zone, ending the first half 16-6.
Hanapepe quarterback Sean Mullikin connected with Vanaman for 32 yards in the first quarter, Mulliien doing the point-after boot.
Mullikin followed that opening score with a 13-yard scoring hit to Vanaman in the second quarter, repeating the point-after boot for the 16-6 first-half margin.
Late in the third quarter, Mullikin hit Henderson on a 2-yard score, gracing the touchdown with another point-after kick with 2:54 showing in the quarter.
Hanapepe opened the final quarter with two scores, Mullikin hitting Henderson for 23 yards and gracing the touchdown with a point-after boot. He closed the day on a 4-yard hit to Vanaman and triggered the running clock with another point-after kick.
There are no football games scheduled for this week as the Kauai Pop Warner Football League hosts the island-wide cheer competition Sunday starting at 10 a.m. at the Kauai High School gym.
The next KPWFL football games will be Oct. 30 at the Bryan J. Baptiste Memorial Sports Complex stadium starting at 8 a.m. Four games are on tap.
