Kyle Rapozo climbed his way to the top of the Junior Dragster division Sunday when the Garden Isle Racing Association hosted the state championship races, its first day drag races of the season, at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana.
Kyle Rapozo climbed his way to the top of the Junior Dragster division Sunday when the Garden Isle Racing Association hosted the state championship races, its first day drag races of the season, at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana.
Rapozo battled through the field of Juniors and the hot and humid weather also copped Best Reaction honors while moving his vehicle on a 0.024 reaction time off the line.
Aaron Silva finished as runner up in the division. Christopher Silva and Zailea Lawrence-White filled in the third and fourth positions, respectively.
Kelsey Kai finished first in the Second Shot class over the efforts of T’Ryane Sakamoto.
Other class winners saw Bryan Riutigliano topping Seth Morales in the Street Class.
Bubby Saiki topped Gabby Saiki in the Sport Compact Class, and Isaac Carvalho bettered Esteve Fernando in the Muscle V8 Class.
Josh Mersberg topped the Bike Class over Karl Nakamura, and Randy Lawrence added to the family holdings by taking the Pro ET Class over Kelden Medeiros.
The next GIRA drag races, the final race for the season, will be held on Nov. 13 at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana. The event will also be a day race with gates opening at 8 a.m., time trials starting at 10 a.m., and racing from 2 to 6 p.m.
