October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and pink ribbons sprout everywhere to support and honor survivors of breast cancer, remember those lost the battle with cancer, and raising awareness of cancer.
Pop Warner football and cheer teams do it. Some of the teams in the Kauai Interscholastic Federation do it. Game officials do it, and the symbol even overflows into the galleys as fans do it.
Lenny Rapozo of the Kauai Officials Association made a donation to the American Cancer Society representing the payment the group would receive for services, adding that for the month of October, football officials will be donning pink to supplement their black-and-white attire.
The ball boys wear pink shirts, some of the officials replace their yellow infraction flags for pink ones, and others have pink whistles.
Proceeds from the sale of these pink merchandise, in many instances, benefit the American Cancer Society’s battle toward eliminating breast cancer.
