The Garden Island Motorcycle Club will be hosting the Holiday Charity Hare Scramble on Nov. 6 in Omao.
A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Ramirez family of Lawai, who lost their home in a massive fire on Oct. 11.
The Garden Island previously reported the house fire totaled $700,000 worth of damage.
GIMC President Bertram Alemida said he knows the family personally, and trying to help them is “the least we can do.”
“He (Karl Ramirez) cut a lot of the trails out there. He was also president of Garden Island Motorcycle Club at one time,”Almeida said. “We used to work together. He’s just a long-time friend.”
The scramble will be divided into two classes: the A class (Ironman) and B class (two-man team relay). Races will last threehours.
“It’s a closed course, which actually (includes) a little bit of pasture riding and trail riding, and then they go into the pit areawhere we put an obstacle course,” Almeida said. “It’s like a track, but it’s like a cross country that loops for about 25-35minutes. The riders go for three hours straight, and they see how many laps they can do within that three hours.”
Registration fee is $35 and five can goods to be donated to the Kauai Independent Food Bank. Registration forms are availableat Suzuki Kauai in Puhi.
Riders can register on-site the morning of the scramble. Gates will open 6:30 a.m. Registration will begin 7 a.m., and the raceis scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
The races are hosted in partnership with Suzuki Kauai and Da Crack restaurant in Poipu.
Almeida said this will be the last event GIMC will host this year.
