LIHUE — Tropic Care 2017 got underway this week when the Tropic Care team leadership, under the direction of Lt. Col. Melissa Wardlaw, had its initial meeting with Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr., select county departments and representatives of the state’s Kauai District Health Office.
“We’re excited about Tropic Care coming back for 2017,” Carvalho said. “But we can’t forget Ke Ala Hele Makalae spur on Kawaihae Road. The spur was started by Tropic Care 2016, and they will return in early 2017 to finish the project. We have the necessary arrangements in place for that phase of work.”
Tropic Care 2017 will be the fourth Innovative Readiness Training mission on Kauai and will be led by U.S. Army Lt. Col. Wardlaw. The event that provides dental, optometric and primary care visits at no cost to participants will take place in June.
Previous Tropic Care missions in 2012, 2014 and 2016 have addressed a range of significant unmet health care needs among Kauai residents.
