LIHUE — The trial for a man accused of sexually assaulting two underage girls has been moved.
Eirik Stevens appeared before Judge Randall Valenciano and Judge Kathleen Watanabe Tuesday on sexual assault charges in separate cases stemming from an April arrest.
While Stevens, 49, was declared fit for trial in October, it was recommended he also undergo a neuropsychological test to determine if he understands the wrongfulness of his actions, said Emmanuel Guerrero, his attorney.
The Lihue man is accused of using treats and snacks to lure a 7-year-old girl into his home, where he sexually assaulted her.
In a separate case, he is accused of repeatedly attempting to inappropriately touch an 8-year-old girl.
On Tuesday, he appeared before Valenciano on two counts of sexual assault in the third-degree. He appeared before Watanabe on two counts of sexual assault in the first-degree.
In order to have a neuropsychological test done, Stevens will have to complete another three-panel medical report. The findings from the panel will be used during the neuropsychological test.
He will be in court again on Feb. 14 to discuss the findings of the test.
Stevens’ trial was originally set for March 6 and will be rescheduled after the February hearing.
