It was a valiant comeback attempt from Kauai’s own Kapaa High School, scoring 14 unanswered points against the Lunas of Lahainaluna of Maui, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Warriors fell 21-14 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on Friday night.
Kapaa out-gained Lahainaluna in total yards gained, 245-186, but costly errors, including a pick-six and a blocked punt returned for a touchdown put the Warriors in a hole they couldn’t dig themselves out of.
Lahainaluna hung on late in the fourth as Kapaa started to show some life and earned its first Division II Championship.
