LIHUE — Susan Davis wants to give high school students on Kauai experiences off the island.
“That’s my vision because it prepares students for a larger world. It gives them hope and encouragement about what life can be out there and allows them to think ‘I could do that with my life,’” she said.
That’s why Davis, who founded The Bridge: Kauai to College, will be hosting a gala fundraiser Sunday at Gaylord’s.
Funds will go back to the nonprofit organization, which focuses on helping high school students through the college application process.
“The whole point is to open horizons and give people hope in their life,” Davis said.
Festivities include a silent auction, a three-course buffet dinner and entertainment by Aaron Sala, Snowbird Bento and Hula Halau Ka Lei Mokihana o’ Leina’ala.
So far, 110 people have registered. Tickets cost $75 and a table of six costs $600.
“People have been so generous,” she said.
Items up for a silent auction include artwork, certificates for tours of the Napali Coast, scuba diving, nail spas and massages.
“We have a lot of cool stuff,” she said.
Since The Bridge: Kauai to College launched in September, five students have enrolled in the program, and there are 10 mentors.
The Bridge: Kauai to College is also partnering with Koloa Union, Lihue United and St. Michael’s Episcopal churches.
“It’s been nine months, and it’s going great,” she said.
The gala runs 4 to 7:30 p.m.
