LIHUE — You could rest and digest after celebrating Thanksgiving on Thursday, or you could join the thousands of people across the country getting off the couch, turning off the TV and searching for sales and savings.
Serious deal-seekers are already planning their Thanksgiving weekend shopping, and experts believe that once again the holiday itself may offer better deals than Black Friday the day afterward.
Longs Drugs at Kukui Grove will hold a three-day Black Friday sale starting Thanksgiving and running through Saturday.
Some of the deals include buy one Casio watch and get one free, Virtual Reality Glasses for $10.99, and a Frozen travel chalkboard that is buy one, get one 50 percent off.
If you’re looking for holiday savings for wine or spirits, Longs Drugs has a 10-percent-off special when you buy six or more bottles of wine and/or spirits through Dec. 31. Gift sets are also available while supplies last.
On Thanksgiving, Longs Lihue and Poipu will be open from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the Kapaa location is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Lihue and Poipu stores open at 5 a.m. on Black Friday and 7 a.m. at the Kapaa location.
Macy’s is offering storewide sales from now to Dec. 1 — with selected items anywhere from 30-65 percent off.
“Customers can expect excellent service, busy crowds and look out for the little kids,” said Macy’s employee Charles Brown. “I’m just looking forward to see the people here and having a good experience.”
The deals include 25 percent off holiday accessories like room games regularly $10-$52, coloring books (regular $10.99-$16.95) and wristlets (regular $19.85-$48.73).
Watches and fine jewelry ($80-$4,000) at Macy’s are marked from 20-30 percent off, while holiday dinnerware and gifts ($20-$440) are advertised at 50 percent off.
If you’re looking for Hawaiian heirloom jewelry, Roberts Jewelry in Lihue is marking its 14-karat-gold and sterling-silver bangles at 20 percent off until Nov. 29.
Kukui Grove plans to have mallwide shopping specials starting at 7 a.m. Friday. There are several stores, however, that plan to open before the slated 7 o’clock mark.
Kmart, Macy’s and Jeans Warehouse open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday, while Game Stop is opening its doors at 5 a.m.
“We expect to be every bit as busy as last year; this past weekend’s sales and visitors have already outpaced previous years,” said Kukui Grove Center General Manager Wade Lord. “Kukui Grove is Kauai’s holiday center with the best deals and holiday entertainment on Kauai.”
Gifts to be keeping an eye on at Kukui Grove’s Black Friday event include a Kukui Grove gift card available at the management office, a Nixon Tide watch at Deja Vu Surf Hawaii and a Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Perfume Luxury gift set at Macy’s.
“You can find anything and everything for everybody on your entire list,” Lord said.
Anthony Florek, Big Kmart Kauai general manager, encourages shoppers to come in Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. for the store’s doorbusters sale.
Doorbusters sale items are designated by three colors: green, magenta and blue.
“Come in and check it out,” Florek said. “There’s going to be a lot of great items.”
One of Kmart’s hottest deals is a Samsung, 32-inch LED HDTV for $189.99.
Florek said he isn’t able to pick out specifically what will be on sale Friday and Saturday, but assured customers offerings will be on hand from early morning to late evening.
At both its Kapaa and Kukui Grove locations, Deja Vu Surf Hawaii will mark its regular-priced items at 30 percent off while supplies last from 7-10 a.m.
With a purchase of $50 or more, the first 100 customers on Black Friday will receive a free men’s T-shirt or women’s tank top. From 10 a.m. to closing, regular-priced items are 25 percent off.
Andres Perez, who’s been with Deja Vu Surf Hawaii for eight months, said he’s looking forward to all the people coming.
At its Quicksilver location at The Shops at Kukuiula, regular-priced items are 25 percent off from Black Friday to Nov. 27. The first 100 customers who purchase $50 or more worth of items also receive their choice of a free men’s T-shirt or women’s tank top.
Some of the deals at Deja Vu include men’s T-shirts and tanks for $10 each, Hurley girls’ tanks and Roxy women’s slippers for $12 each, and men’s stretch boardshorts for $28.
Just across the street at The Home Depot, Black Friday savings include up to 40 percent off major appliances and a savings up to $450 when you buy two or more select appliances valued at $498 or more.
This is valid through Nov. 30.
Even McDonald’s is joining in on the fun, offering a free 10-piece Chicken McNuggets coupon with the purchase of a $25 gift card.
