PRINCEVILLE — Andrew Cabreiros and Denise Wardlow of the Westin Princeville Ocean View Villas have been working hard at the Princeville resort’s loading dock.
Cabreiros was not done, helping forklift driver Wayne Chow and Kauai Independent Food Bank warehouse supervisor Rizalde Tolentino secure the pallets of loose food and bags of rice.
The Westin Princeville presented more than 1,500 pounds of food to the Kauai Independent Food Bank for its Holiday Healthy Food and Fund Drive.
“We appreciate all the help provided by the Westin Princeville,” said Kelvin Moniz, KIFB executive director.
“This food is needed and will stay on this island to help take care of our families and people who need help getting food. Some of these include children and kupuna who live in this North Shore community.”
Moniz said the Westin Princeville has been a strong supporter of feeding Kauai’s families since the resort opened in 2008, celebrating the occasion with a $5,000 award to KIFB.
The KIFB Holiday Healthy Food and Fund drive has a goal of $45,000 and 45,000 pounds of food by Dec. 31.
Leona Perez, KIFB programs manager, said with the Westin contribution more than 10,800 pounds of food has been given toward the goal, including contributions from Skyline Eco Adventures, which generated more than 5,600 pounds of food through an internal promotional campaign. Other contributors include Hokuala Golf Club (312 pounds), Kauai Pop Warner Football League (262 pounds), Garden Island Motorcycle Club (300 pounds), DuPont Pioneer (122 pounds), Kadee Parubrub’s birthday party (2,068 pounds), King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School (135 pounds), Koloa School (279 pounds), East Kauai Lions Club (108 pounds), Poipu Beach Athletic Club (67 pounds), and Storybook Theater Princess Ka‘iulani Birthday Party (25 pounds).
Anyone interested in hosting food drives can contact Perez at the Kauai Independent Food Bank. Individuals can contribute nonperishable foods at any of the Kauai fire stations from Princeville to Waimea, or at the Kauai Independent Food Bank in Nawiliwili.
